God’s Confirming Word

As I read Psalm 147, I was reminded of how God confirms his Word through his Word and many other verses came to mind. I looked up these confirming verses and have linked them to this passage. You may see the verses by clicking on their links, then transfer back to this passage with the back button on your browser. (My words are in parentheses.)
Psalm 147

sing praises to our God with a harp.

those who put their hope in his unfailing love.

(Those who allow God to lead them. 1 John 4:18)

12 Glorify the Lord, O Jerusalem!

Praise your God, O Zion!

13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates

(He protects us. Psalm 91)

and blessed your children within your walls.

(He Loves us. Romans 8:38-39)

14 He sends peace across your nation

(His peace which we can’t explain. Philippians 4:7)

and satisfies your hunger with the finest wheat.

(There are Rewards for following God. Ephesians 3:6)

15 He sends his orders to the world—

how swiftly his word flies!

(If God is for us, who can stand against us? Romans 8:31)

16 He sends the snow like white wool;

he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes.

17 He hurls the hail like stones.

Who can stand against his freezing cold?

(God controls the weather.)

18 Then, at his command, it all melts.

He sends his winds, and the ice thaws.

(When Jesus woke up… the storm stopped and all was calm. Luke 8:24)

his decrees and regulations to Israel.

they do not know his regulations.

  1. Thanks for bringing these promises from Gods word to mind!

Our heavenly Father is in control of all and

He loves us much more than we know!

    Who can stand against us?

  2. I was taught as a babe in Christ (in my early 20’s) that the only correct exegesis of Scripture is Scripture. You clearly have a similar mindset.

What a masterful job you have done providing us with confirming Scripture in context of this beautiful Psalm. Thank you so much, Kimberly!

  3. Shalom Kimberly…

I love the scriptures used here. The scriptures (Psalm 91 and in I Cor) was ringing a bell here and gave me pause to absorbe them in my thoughts/mind.

    1. Josiah – You reflected on a couple of my favorite scriptures. Psalm 91 has been a comfort to me through the years. The other verse is a reminder that God will reveal to us anything if we seek His wisdom.

  4. BTW….one question came to mind. If God controls the weather, why would Jesus “rebuke” the storm? Was the storm from the enemy? I know there are counterfeit spirits. Does the enemy have that kind of power too?

    1. The disciples went to God in the form of Jesus to calm the storm. There are many ways in which God works, we just have to be in tune with how he wants to work by allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal to us His perfect will.

Sometimes storms are allowed in our lives and it is our response which makes the difference. When we hold onto what we know in the Word and walk in our inheritance under the New Covenant, we will know how to face storms in our lives and how to rebuke them. We cannot allow the troubles we face to overcome us but we must rise above them.

The disciples had Jesus right in the boat with them. They were looking at the circumstances and not Him. They were putting their confidence in the power of the storm and not in the power of God. How often do we focus on our situation rather than focus on the answer? What is the answer? The answer is the Word for us in the New Covenant – joint heirs with Jesus.

  5. I apologize for that question. Not trying to be a nuisance here. Will go ask another friend that loves answering questions. It’s just the question popped up in my head as I read that.

  6. Yes, Tom may we sing out our thanks and praises to God! There are so many good Psalms, it is hard to pick a favorite. David was truly used by God even though he made mistakes. That is a lesson for us all!
